We're getting the gen on generative AI and AI networking this month with articles that explore - and also sound a note of caution about - the adoption of artificial intelligence in the workplace. First, Kevin Kline, Database Expert at SolarWinds, considers whether the increasing demand for generative AI may be outstripping the expertise available to properly implement it within organisations. As Kevin cautions in his article, "My view about this technology is clear: AI can make skilled people more productive, but it's not ready to enable a low-skill person to act like a skilled DBA (database administrator) or developer." Kevin stresses the importance of having robust data governance and security measures in place before we rush to adopt the technology, and explains why we need to commit to improving our data literacy.
Yohan Lobo, Senior Industry Solutions Manager at M-Files, also belives that building a successful Gen AI strategy for your business is reliant on having the right data foundations in place: "A GenAI strategy that respects security and compliance policies and allows businesses to leverage their data to its full potential can yield enviable results, improving the experience of both employees and customers in the process. Where issues arise is when management teams are over-eager and rush into Gen AI implementation. Any effective AI strategy should be built on a foundation of structured data that is searchable and organised using metadata, as this is the only way the outputs of a Gen AI solution can be fully trusted."
We also have an insightful guide to AI from Linas Dauksa, Product Manager at Keysight Technologies, who explains five fundamental aspects of AI networking that anyone looking to implement the technology succesfully should know, and the challenges the technology can pose to large networks.
